5pm-8pm First Friday Gallery Opening with works from Mendocino College Fiber Arts students
7pm Hear from Jody Alexander (who is teaching at the Mendocino Art Center) on The Boro Aesthetic
Boro is a word used to describe Japanese textiles that have been pieced, patched, repaired and passed down from generation to generation. Boro textiles are utilitarian objects that are rich and sumptuous and that, although old in age, possess a contemporary aesthetic, and are rooted in sustainability. She will be sharing images from her personal collection of Japanese boro textiles and may even have a few items in hand.
Jody has recently written a book on the subject.
Ongoing in the Tapestry Studio will be a couple of women “in residence” working on a stitchery of Druers Rhinoceros during the entire evening.
